The Black Card Lottery is an impactful, community-based initiative founded by UK-based retail expert and entrepreneur, Sophia Leach.  It is the first-ever Black-owned, fully licensed lottery in the UK. 


The Black Card Lottery is the brainchild of award-winning retail expert and entrepreneur Sophia Leach. It is the first fully licensed and regulated, Black-owned lottery and it aims to tackle prevalent issues within the Black community in the UK. 

The fundamental objective of the Black Card Lottery is to adopt a solution-driven approach to developing and supporting the Black Community by introducing and enhancing existing educational programs for Black students in the UK.  Also, facilitating the growth of Black-owned businesses nationwide. 

The glaring wealth gap and lack of funding for community enhancement programs for black students, families and businesses suggest that non-profit organisations like the Black Card Lottery are crucial for the long-term progression of the Black community in the United Kingdom. 

The Black Card Lottery places a significant emphasis on the word 'community.' As the keys to solving the issues within the Black Community lie within the community itself. 

There is a major need for community-based, solution-based initiatives such as BCL. They also plan to work with the Black Community to create and enhance educational programs for young people in the United Kingdom. Additionally, their innovative system will heavily support Black-owned businesses by purchasing products for daily prize draws. 

How the Black Card Lottery Works 
If you have never heard of the Black Card Lottery and you are in the UK, you might be wondering how it works. Below is a breakdown of how the Black Card Lottery works: 

BCL is a subscription-based lottery that offers its members a chance to subscribe for £10 per month. There are daily draws where members will get the chance to win a product from a Black-owned business. 

For the first draw there are two prizes:

2. Shea Love London products- all-natural shea-based products created by a registered nurse. 

All prizes are sourced from Black-owned businesses in the United Kingdom and the mission is to contribute to the progression of small black-owned businesses, providing extra revenue and contributing to their overall growth and development. 

A jackpot winner is announced every Friday, jackpots are set at £500 at the moment. 

50% of the lottery proceeds are returned as weekly cash prizes and daily prizes from Black-owned businesses. 

A minimum of 35% ticket is set aside for educational and charitable causes within the Black British community.
